Carbon Fibre Violin Shoulder Rest

The Challenge:
To design a new flagship product for the KUN Shoulder Rest Company using light weight carbon fiber for the main body; making it the lightest and best performing shoulder rest on the market.

Accomplishments:
  • designed to be the lightest product of its kind, while still providing high bending and torsional resistance
  • retention of original mechanical characteristics with carbon fiber in thermo-plastic matrix
  • increased padding, comfort and ergonomics
  • over-molded forks created with special effects plastics give better grip and durability
  • developed a patented infinite adjustment/sizing mechanism that is intuitive and easy to use
  • some Voce users are claiming that the stiffness and geometry of the carbon fiber shoulder rest increases the acoustic and resonant qualities of their violins
Responsibilities:
Full product development including industrial design, material/process selection and validation, manufacturer sourcing and liaison, multiple prototypes for validation, 3D CAD capture, graphic application.
